Writer's Toolbox

My writer's toolbox is one part electronic and internet based, the other is physical. I always have Grammarly running on all browsers of my computer. This free service scans everything written on my personal computer and alerts me when there is a spelling or grammar error. I usually use this during a first draft to get the initial kinks out that happen as I type fast and without care. Another electronic tool I use very regularly is Thesarus.com. I usually reserve writing for night time when I am winding down and getting cozy in bed, and many times my brain is exhausted from the day and can't seem to formulate an appropriate vocabulary. Thesuarus.com refreshes my memory and introduces new words that I normally would not think to incorporate. I also enjoy brainstorming and creating plans on paper. I always keep a nicer, leather-bound journal to start brainstorming for projects and essays. Nothing feels better than writing down ideas and emotions on a physical piece of paper, and then reviewing it throughly before documenting my ideas in my computer. Outside of actually writing, I always play instrumental R&B jazz in the background. Smooth jazz boosts my mood, and the lack of words decreases the likelihood of getting distracted. My general routine is to get in bed, turn on my string lights, turn up the jazz, and throw on a couple of fuzzy blankets while my chamomile tea is brewing. I love the relaxation that comes with writing and the process that goes into documenting my thoughts.
